14 October 2010

Kenzie sat down with Mommy to practice reading and she read 40 three letter words.  She read 'bed' and said, "just like when we go to sleep, we go to bed!" She then read 'red' and said, "just like I am reading a book!" I explained that this word means the color red, she replied, "but this is blue!" The text happens to be blue and each letter is in a separate blue box! I love the way children think!

20 September 2010

We started our day with Math.

Charlie completed 6 pages.

McKenzie completed 2 pages of addition.

We then went to Dance; while one was in the class, the other did her reading work.  McKenzie read a few pages to Mommy.
Charlie worked on worksheets about herself, reading the questions and sound writing the answers (with minimal help).

10 September 2010

Charlie read her book.  She read it to herself.  Mommy asked her a few questions, to be sure she understood what she read, she did!

McKenzie is starting to read!!  She read several more words today!

We met with homeschool friends at a park for a picnic lunch.

The girls made Toe Jam Grape Juice!

9 September 2010

We had an easy day.  Mommy did some house chores...

The girls had a chance to learn through play!  It is always fun to let them go off and learn on their own.

McKenzie sat and read four words with me and then was done.  She later sat alone and read four more words.  I am so proud of her, she has the first steps to reading!!

We have a large tote of learning supplies; flashcards, puzzle connectors, math blocks, puzzle mats, etc.  They went wild and had a blast doing so!

3 September 2010

Charlie made oatmeal for breakfast!
Did I mention, it was cooked for all of 30 seconds!

We discussed parts of a story. When we got to characters, McKenzie said, "hey, Pooh is a character!" They have a good grasp on the basics.

We discussed measuring the floor using our bodies, and who would take more to measure.

We practiced and memorized Mommy's new phone number.

McKenzie sang us a new song!

1 September 2010

We discussed Punctuation and Capitalization.  Mommy was trying to start easy with period, question mark, and exclamation point.  Charlie said that quotation marks are punctuation as well, thus lengthening the lesson.  We went over our punctuation chart and reviewed what each one is called and what they are used for.

We discussed parts of the story.  When Charlie said Character, McKenzie said, "Pooh is a character."

Charlie practiced measuring, using a playing card.  Mommy made her a list and Charlie went around the house measuring with her card and filling in the amount.

Both Charlie and McKenzie drew a picture of our house, as we discussed out address.

27 August 2010

We had a review day...I just can't keep up with these girls.

Mommy had to leave at noon, so Daddy got to spend the day with his girls!

23 August 2010

Charlie learned to tie her shoes!!

Charlie and McKenzie had their first dance class.  They will be continuing through the year.

We discussed; synonyms and antonyms, Spanish colors, money, maps.

Mommy made a no tack, tack board!

19 August 2010

We discussed more antonyms and synonyms.

Reviewed all of our colors, we are trying to have Charlie and McKenzie tell us the colors in Spanish when we say the English version.

We discussed the reviewed habitats.  The girls worked on a look and find book about habitats.

Kenzie decided to work on a cutting project, while waiting for dinner, this is what we found while going to set the table.
This must have been a huge project!

17 August 2010

Back to school work.

We discussed synonyms (cinnamons, according to McKenzie) and antonyms.  We plowed through that.  They understood it better than I expected for a day one discussion.

We reviewed our Spanish colors; red, blue, yellow, green, orange, pink, black, and white!

Charlie worked on money; what the names are, what they are worth, and adding like amounts.

We discussed holidays; the holidays we celebrate, that other families celebrate the same holidays in different ways, and that other families celebrate holidays that our family does not.  We discussed that in our country you are allowed to believe in anything you want to and celebrate the way you choose to.

We discussed more about habitats and how animals adjust to their environment.

20 August 2010

11 August 2010

We reviewed Spanish colors.
Played time bingo again for math.
Charlie did worksheets on habitats.  She had to cross out animals that did not belong in the habitat.

We had a half day of work.

While cooking dinner, I found Sweetie like this...

9 August 2010

We had quotations scheduled as our reading discussion, but Charlie explained; "they are at the front and the end, to tell you someone is talking."  So, we skipped that discussion!

We played time bingo for math, Charlie is a whiz at that!

We discussed the differences between a city and the country.  Both girls pretty much had that down!

We discussed what animals live in the different habitats.

We had a half day of work.  In the afternoon, we went to the library and signed both girls up for the year long ballet!!

15 August 2010

4 August 2010

We had another great day of learning!

Charlie worked on spelling,/consonant worksheets.
McKenzie refused to do her worksheets on following directions, as "they aren't big girl worksheets!"  Apparently she is sick of the little girl worksheets I have given her.  These little girl worksheets are for Kindergarten, but not tough enough.

Charlie finish her worksheet set of counting to 100 by twos.
McKenzie worked on comparison of numbers.  This was a bit difficult for her, so next week we will be sitting down for a lesson on this.

Both girls drew a country and city map.  McKenzie drew a barn as well.

Both girls reviewed plant parts by drawing a picture of a flower with all the necessary parts.

Charlie completed three worksheets on the plant parts and their jobs.
